Anniversary no Kuni no Alice Complete Patch release!

Hello friends! Thanks to the hard work of our project members and all your support, the translation project has FINALLY been completed!! We added all the remaining routes and also did some extensive grammar and translation check of the previously completed routes, so expect better quality translations overall~

collage_final

All the character routes and subevents are now translated. If you run into any Japanese text, let us know immediately because there shouldn’t be any.

EDIT: patch.xp3 updated to include 2 missing basic events in Blood’s non-stay route. Thank you Brianna for letting us know!

The download link for the patch is below~! Note that there’s an extra folder named “patch without OP”, it contains an alternate version of patch.xp3 that is much smaller in size (25 MB instead of the massive 813 MB) because it doesn’t contain the translations for the opening and ending songs. It might be a better choice for people who need more disk space or have issues downloading big files. (If you only want to view the translated videos, you may check them out here on youtube, courtesy of sonic-nancy-fan ❤ )

(game link source: fyeah hnkna tumblr)

Once again, I’m not bothering to link sites where you can purchase the game since it seems like you can’t activate the game license now that Quinrose is no longer active.A couple tips to make your gaming experience better:

  1. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FILE AND THE BASIC GAMEPLAY EXPLANATION DOC!
  2. Use the flag monitor to keep track of the affection points. This is a feature I added to the game with the patch, and it can be found under the debug option.
  3. The patch includes a walkthough for the game (it’s basically a translated version of the Japanese walkthrough from here.) It’s pretty long, so use the bookmarks!
  4. Optional: Change the font to “Sans Serif“. IMO it looks better than the default Serif, and Serif also tends to overflow the text box from time to time.

A big round of applause for everyone who have contributed in this project over the years~!  I’d like to especially thank the few current members who kept the project alive while I was busy with real life issues during last year: Aubrey, Sonic-nancy-fan and Eldiatricc. Their hard work is what made this release possible, and I love them all. ❤ Aubrey is godlike when comes to translating speed and accuracy, she pretty much singlehandedly translated all the remaining routes that were missing in the last patch (and she had done several more even before that!) while also translation checking old scripts, so give her a lot of love! Sonic has always been the most active member of the project, and outside her main role of proofreading (she has proofread pretty much everything since…2015? time is a blackhole), she has also helped out a lot in editing and finding gameplay issues. Like Sonic, Eldiatricc is also a mutli-tasker who both performed excellent, naturally flowing edits and religiously tested scripts ingame to ensure we have a smooth running patch 🙂

Moving on to the members who have helped us a lot over time even though they haven’t been around lately. Finalaccount comes to mind first for translating several of the hardest scripts like the prologue (Quinrose always had irritatingly long prologues). I’d also like to mention Kaylin for translating a good number of scripts especially the Nightmare route and being a great supporter of the project, Spicy-Diamond and Straydog12 for a huge amount of picture edits, Hattingmad for her numerous excellent edits, particularly for the more important and plot heavy scripts, and Falaina for creating the means for distributing the patch and helping in troubleshooting. Special thanks goes to Quibi from fuwanovel forums for his help with wrapping text properly and creating a working patch. I’d also like to thank vocaotome aka myself (lol), although I’m not sure what to classify myself as since I juggled several duties like translating/recruiting people/testing the game and fixing issues.

We should also definitely thank the retired previous admin Stellaroze for starting this project in the first palce. Among the early project members, Yukihime helped translate a large amount of scripts and Ayame, Mimi and Kyatana did the same in editing/ proofreading. Many thanks to our translators Ellis, Spinster, Chirigirl13, Alice, Ciara, Hakaieve, Nuitnoire, Noriri and Editors/Proofreaders Liza, Maisa, Grimm, Melissa, Marie, Lucy, Rebecca, Daeyamati, Pandora, Mio. My apologies to everyone whom I didn’t mention by name because of lack of space (or because they left before I became admin), rest assured that we appreciate all of you regardless.

Please ignore how I recycled a lot of sentences from earlier posts, expressing my overflowing love for my friends in writing is hard

That’s all~ Enjoy the patch, and report any issues/share your excitement by commenting in this post.

Update: Anniversary no Kuni no Alice short bugfix + Clover no Kuni no Alice translation progress report

Hello friends! Vocaotome here.

It’s been a pretty long time since our last post. After such a long wait I wish we could announce a trial patch for clover, but real life obligations and only a small number of active translators means that our progress has been slow, only 11% scripts have been translated so far. Currently we have about 2-3 active translators, so we’re still open to new members joining even though we aren’t actively recruiting in social media like reddit etc. If anyone with experience in translating visual novels wants to help out, shoot me an email at aurora6290@gmail.com.

However, we still have some good news. When we first released the patch for Anniversary, a lot of bugs popped up, and we released bugfixes for them immediately. But there were some small issues that we couldn’t properly recreate for troubleshooting or were insignificant enough to not affect gameplay, so we hadn’t released any more. Today we offer you an optional patch that does the following:

  • fix the disappearing Julius bug experienced by several players
  • make the character names show up in English in the backlog

Many thanks to Arneth Myndraavn for fixing these issues!

Patch fix download link: Google Drive /  Mediafire

To install the fix patch, you just download the new patch3 file and place it in the same game folder as patch.xp3 and patch2.xp3. If you face any problems after adding the new file, you can always remove the file and go back. Please note that if you load a save from before the backlog change was made, all previous backlog names will still be in JP. Any names viewed after the new patch is installed should be in English.

Update: Clover no Kuni no Alice translation project recruiting translators!

Hello friends! Vocaotome here. I hope all of you and your family have been safe during this pandemic. It’s been a year since we reported our status, real life obligations and the whole situation with COVID have been keeping us rather busy. 😅

However you’ll be happy to know that even in the middle of this mess we have managed to solve the technical issues involved with the project. After careful deliberation, we decided to go with the PC version of clover as the old PSP version did not have any extra content and was not as easy to patch as the PC version, while the Shinsouban remake simply refused to be let us inject translated text into it. The PC version originally had a problem that did not let Windows 8 or 10 users play the game, but our lovely hacker Falaina has solved that problem! We’re finally at a stage where we can now safely inject text into the game and make patches, and play the patched game with translated text on Windows 10!

To celebrate our progress so far, we are sharing the file that helps you play the game in Windows 8/10. Just install the clover game, place the patch.xp3 from us in the same directory as alice_in_clover.exe and run the exe (you’ll need to either have your computer locale set to Japanese or use Locale Emulator). Right now everything will still be in Japanese, but at least you will be able to confirm whether the game works on your computer or not.

Windows fix patch download link

As you can see from the screenshots, it’s still a work in progress. The original game had lots of questionable GUI decisions, look at how they put white text against a light background! We hope to fix that before we release any translation patches.

Also we are currently very short on stuff. There is only one translator who has made some progress with Gray and Nightmare routes, but for everything else we have had little progress. So we’ve reopened recruitment for translators again! We are looking for good English and basic Japanese knowledge (not simply the ability to google translate). People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on my twitter, mentioning your qualifications for the translator position (like “I took courses for Japanese in college/self-studied for 2 years to sate my doujinshi thirst/helped translate this manga” etc). Right now we have some editors/proofreaders who don’t have enough to do yet, so we are not recruiting for these positions (but we will do so once we have some more scripts translated~).

EDIT:

We have gotten a great response, 7 translators joined us in total! We are stopping recruiting as of 29/08/2021. Might recruit again if any of the translators need help or go on hiatus.

Update(?)

Hello everyone! After almost 2 years of silence I decided to make an update post (even though we don’t have much to report) to clarify a few things.

Willy Wonka Sarcasm Meme meme

First of all, nobody has died and the rumor that the moderator for this blog (which currently happens to be…me) died in an accident is not true. One year ago this website got hacked and we found a post about “tragic death of moderator in motorbike accident”, which directed you to a sketchy link that probably had some sort of virus (I never clicked it).

I deleted the post right away after another person in the team brought it to my attention, but all of us didn’t notice that the pages had also been changed by the hacker, which probably resulted in future visitors to the site believing that something tragic really happened. But don’t worry, nothing really happened.

Now moving on to the project status update. Most of the active members of the group are still around and we are discussing possible approaches to take for the future games starting with Clover, but we are not ready to announce any definite plans at this time. There are a number of technical issues that we must fix before we can actively get started on the project, and we will let you know if/when we manage to solve those issues and actually enter the translating phase.

March update and apologies

Hello all! Many of you probably thought the project was dead, but we still are going strong 😀

I apologize for the severe lack of updates since last July. Real life really wrecked me these last few months and I had move houses three times in the span of a year, with my last and final move this February being from one country to another. Because of that I haven’t had much time to keep the blog updated and made everyone worry, I’m very sorry about that.

But there is good news! Despite the long silence on this blog, the few members we have had been working steadily since the last update and we are hoping that the next update will be a complete patch with all the routes! The current total status percentage of the project is:

  • Translation: 99%
  • Editing: 98%
  • Proofreading: 98%

Basically all that’s left is the translation of some scenes in Blood’s non-stay route, a few translation fixes and the addition of new routes in the walkthrough.

Also I’m extremely sorry to all the people who mailed/messaged me expressing their interest in working for our project. It’s unfortunate that you couldn’t help us before because of me being MIA, but right now thankfully we don’t need any extra manpower. So please just accept my appreciation for your offer to help and look forward to the complete patch. 🙂

Patch update+Recruiting translators!

We return with an update containing 2 routes – Gowland stay route and Ace non-stay route! It’s such an ironic contrast because Gowland is the sweetest and most vanilla while Ace is….Ace. XDcollage

The current list of the characters who are included in the patch is:

  1. Blood Dupre (stay route)
  2. Elliot (stay and non-stay routes)
  3. Boris Airay (stay and non-stay routes)
  4. Peter (stay and non-stay routes)
  5. Ace (stay route and non-stay routes)  -NEW Non-stay route!
  6. Julius (stay and non-stay routes)
  7. Gowland -NEW Stay route!
  8. Nightmare

The download link for the patch is below~! Download links for the game can be found here (source: fyeah hnkna tumblr). Once again, I’m not bothering to link sites where you can purchase the game since it seems like you can’t activate the game license now that Quinrose is no longer active.

EDIT: LINKS UPDATED TO STOP CRASH DURING BLOOD BALL SCENE A!

Google Drive /  Mega / Mediafire

The usual warnings, a little edited:

  1. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FILE AND THE BASIC GAMEPLAY EXPLANATION DOC!
  2. The walkthough has been updated with information for the new routes and for better readability. It’s pretty long, so use the bookmarks!
  3. As mentioned in the walkthrough, Julius route has to be unlocked by playing Ace route and Nightmare route has to be unlocked by playing Julius’s. If you want to play them first no matter what, use the 100% savedata file, although I don’t recommend it since those routes are pretty spoilery.

As always, a thousand hugs and kisses to our currently active members: translators Aubrey and Kaylin and Editors/Proofreaders Sonic-nancy-fan, Hattingmad, Eldiatricc(also a tester!) ❤ Thanks to their hard work, the current total status percentage of the project is:

  • Translation: 91%
  • Editing: 90%
  • Proofreading: 90%

After this update we’re really close to completely finishing the project! Only Vivaldi and Twins still need to have both their stay and non-stay routes translated, and Blood and Gowland need their non-stay ones. All the subevents have been translated, so you shouldn’t encounter any Japanese text at all unless you aim for these still unfinished routes. We want to finish these routes asap so we’ve reopened recruitment for translators again! For translators we are looking for good English and basic Japanese knowledge (not simply the ability to google translate, mind you). People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on my tumblr blog  (messages are encouraged since sometimes tumblr eats normal asks), mentioning your qualifications for the translator position (like “I took courses for Japanese in college/self-studied for 2 years to sate my doujinshi thirst/helped translate this manga” etc).

Once again my unending love goes to the currently active members who have been working so hard even when I have been kinda MIA! Hugs and kisses to our translators Aubrey, Kaylin, Ellis and Editors/Proofreaders Sonic-nancy-fan, Hattingmad, Eldiatricc (also a tester!) ❤

As for the overall progress: Gowland, Vivaldi and Twins still need to have both their stay and non-stay routes translated, while Blood and Ace only need their non-stay ones. The current total status percentage of the project is:

  • Translation: 85%
  • Editing: 84%
  • Proofreading: 84%

Happy new year and Patch update!

Happy new year everyone! What better way to celebrate than a patch update containing 3 more routes? 😀

That’s right, we present to you a patch update for Anniversary no Kuni no Alice, containing stay routes for 3 more characters- Ace, Julius and Elliot! The current list of the characters who are included in the patch is:

  1. Blood Dupre (stay route)
  2. Elliot (stay route) -NEW!
  3. Boris Airay (stay and non-stay routes)
  4. Peter (stay route)

A couple things that I should mention:

  1. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.TXT!
  2. The walkthough has been updated with information for the new routes and for better readability. It’s gotten pretty long, so use the bookmarks!
  3. As mentioned in the walkthrough, Julius route has to be unlocked by playing Ace route and Nightmare route has to be unlocked by playing Julius’s. If you want to play them first no matter what, use the 100% savedata file, although I don’t recommend it since those routes are pretty spoilery.

Many thanks to the currently active members who made it possible to finish 3 more routes in just 3 months! Our translators Aubrey, Kaylin, Ellis and Editors/Proofreaders Hattingmad, Eldiatricc (also a tester!), Sonic-nancy-fan are just the best, I’m so grateful for their hard work ❤

(Just to keep track of things, the current total status percentage of the project is:

  • Translation: 78%
  • Editing: 77%
  • Proofreading: 72%

Only Gowland, Vivaldi and Twins left among the stay routes, but non-stay ones are still a work in progress as only Boris non-stay route and Nightmare route are done.)

Anniversary no Kuni no Alice First Partial Patch release!

b

We finally bring you the first partial patch of Anniversary no Kuni no Alice, containing routes for 4 characters out of 11! I can’t believe it’s been 4 long years since this project was first proposed in a baka-tsuki forums thread…Before I get lost in nostalgia let me announce the characters who are included in the patch!

  1. Blood Dupre (stay route)
  2. Boris Airay (stay and non-stay routes)
  3. Peter (stay route)
  4. Nightmare!

Yup, you read that right, we translated the route of the ever so elusive Nightmare! So those of you who played the android/iphone app before Quinrose went bankrupt and were saddened by the lack of a Nightmare route, you finally get to love him 😀

Here’s the download link for the patch~! You can buy the game from amazon I believe, but Quinrose no longer exists so you won’t be able to support them T_T Download links for the game can be found easily by googling the name.

Google Drive /  Mega / Mediafire

A couple tips to make your gaming experience better:

  1. Use the flag monitor to keep track of the affection points. This is a feature I added with the patch since I remember how painful it was to keep track of everything when I played the game in Japanese;;; It can be found under the debug option.
    es
  2. The release includes walkthough for the routes in the patch (it’s basically a translated version of the Japanese walkthrough from here.)
  3. Change the font to “Sans Serif“. It looks better (above pic) than the default Serif, and Serif also tends to overflow the text box from time to time.
  4. EDIT: Use the 100% save file before you start a new game if you’re going for Nightmare’s route! This is because a good portion of scenes in Nightmare’s route require having finished Julius’s route beforehand, and Julius’s route is unlocked by playing Ace’s. I only discovered this when I translated the walkthrough, sorry.

Note that Anniversary isn’t a pure visual novel, and since this is a partial patch, we only translated the scenes that you would encounter while going for any of the above character routes. As for the short basic events, we translated all the basic scripts for the related characters and also the first 30-50% basic scripts for the other characters. You shouldn’t see any Japanese text unless you spam the characters who are not included in the patch so much that you end up triggering their non-stay route. All characters have their first non-stay event translated, however we have translated some more non-stay events accordingly so that people don’t have problems completing the subevents for the characters in the partial patch (for example, Blood’s and Boris’s jealousy scenes at the ball require you see the first 3 non-stay events for Peter, so we translated them).

I’m grateful to everyone who have contributed in this project over the years. I’d like to especially thank the few current members who gave me a lot of last minute help in releasing this patch: Eldiatricc for having god level patience and testing around 2k scripts while also juggling Editor duties, Aubrey for contributing a good amount of accurate and fast translations (also translation checking) even though she joined us recently,  Kaylin for translating a good number of scripts especially the Nightmare route, Sonic-nancy-fan for being the fastest and most active proofreader we could ask for, Spicy-Diamond and Straydog12 for a huge amount of picture edits, Hattingmad for her numerous excellent edits, particularly for the more important and plot heavy scripts, and Falaina for creating the means for distributing the patch and helping in troubleshooting.

Though they aren’t around much these days, Yukihime and Finalaccount helped translate a large amount of scripts and Ayame, Mimi and Kyatana did the same in editing/ proofreading. Our translators Ellis, Spinster, Chirigirl13, Alice, Ciara, Hakaieve, Nuitnoire, Noriri and Editors/Proofreaders Liza, Maisa, Grimm, Melissa, Marie, Lucy, Rebecca, Daeyamati, Pandora, Mio all worked together to make this release possible, and I love you all. ❤ My apologies to everyone whom I didn’t mention by name because of lack of space (or because they left before I became admin), rest assured that we appreciate all of you regardless.

That’s all~ Enjoy the patch, and report any crashes/share your excitement either by commenting in this post or contacting me on tumblr. (I’m thinking of setting up a forum to report small issues like spelling mistakes, odd translations, basic events not booting up etc., but for now only report if your game is literally crashing.)

September Update!

Quick little update! No partial patch specific updates this time because we have like only 5 more scripts to proofread, the rest of the scripts are being tested in game~ We’re hoping to release the partial patch some time during the later half of September. 🙂

Here’s the current total status percentage of the project:

  • Translation: 70%
  • Editing: 68%
  • Proofreading: 63%

I tried to add a couple things when translating the GUI interface, and among them the flag monitor is something I believe fans who have tried playing the game before will appreciate~ it always annoyed me that we players couldn’t view the number of affection points while playing, but with this flag monitor you can check out your status at any time. 🙂

People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on tumblr (through messages or asks), mentioning your qualifications for the position applied.  Currently accepting applications for all positions, but since there aren’t many translated editable scripts atm translators are needed more than the rest!

Here’s an explanation of the three jobs:

  • Translators need to have a good grasp of both English and basic Japanese (not simply the ability to google translate, mind you). In this project we try to be faithful towards the original text as much as possible, but we localize a little bit when needed and don’t use some of the Japanese grammar rules with English translations where it no longer makes sense.
  • Translating from Japanese to English often introduces awkward sentences because it’s hard to both be creative in word choice and maintain accuracy, so we often end up translating too literally, despite our best efforts. That’s where an editor comes in. Editors are strongly encouraged to have a creative bone since the editor’s job is to make sure the text flows well and sounds natural. They ensure the word choice, sentence tone, clarity of content etc are good, and do both stylistic edits as well as grammar edits (IF needed).
  • On the other hand, the only thing a proofreader does is check for punctuation and spelling mistakes (after the script has been edited by the editor). But their job is also important, since even the coolest sentence can be ruined by silly typos.

Note: I’m not trying to be mean- but if you don’t have time to work on the project at this moment, please don’t apply right now and wait until you do! In the past there have been at least 10 ghost members who joined but never got started, I just ended up delaying progress by assigning work to them and waiting.
