August Update!

The last month has been really hectic with a bunch of new helpful translators, editors and proofreaders joining, and so we have good news~ The scripts needed for the partial patch with Boris, Blood, Peter and one more character routes are almost completely translated! All that is left is to have them edited/proofread and tested ingame.

Here’s the current total status percentage of the project:

  • Translation: 69%
  • Editing: 65%
  • Proofreading: 58%

Routewise scripts left to translate

Blood (stay) 1
Boris (non-stay) 0
Boris (stay) 0
Common events 1
Unannounced Character 0
Peter (stay) 3

People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on tumblr (through messages or asks), mentioning your qualifications for the position applied.  Currently accepting applications for all positions, but since there aren’t many translated editable scripts atm translators are needed more than the rest!

Here’s an explanation of the three jobs:

  • Translators need to have a good grasp of both English and basic Japanese (not simply the ability to google translate, mind you). In this project we try to be faithful towards the original text as much as possible, but we localize a little bit when needed and don’t use some of the Japanese grammar rules with English translations where it no longer makes sense.
  • Translating from Japanese to English often introduces awkward sentences because it’s hard to both be creative in word choice and maintain accuracy, so we often end up translating too literally, despite our best efforts. That’s where an editor comes in. Editors are strongly encouraged to have a creative bone since the editor’s job is to make sure the text flows well and sounds natural. They ensure the word choice, sentence tone, clarity of content etc are good, and do both stylistic edits as well as grammar edits (IF needed).
  • On the other hand, the only thing a proofreader does is check for punctuation and spelling mistakes (after the script has been edited by the editor). But their job is also important, since even the coolest sentence can be ruined by silly typos.

Note: I’m not trying to be mean- but if you don’t have time to work on the project at this moment, please don’t apply right now and wait until you do! In the past there have been at least 10 ghost members who joined but never got started, I just ended up delaying progress by assigning work to them and waiting.

July Update!

I truly apologize about the lack of updates this year, I had been answering asks about translation progress on tumblr and somehow deluded myself that I have updated the blog too. orz First let me share the current total status. (There has been very little progress in translation for reasons explained below, but yay for awesome increase in proofreading percentage!)

  • Translation: 61%
  • Editing: 50%
  • Proofreading: 46%

As we said before, the routes that have significant progress in terms of total content and will be included in the soon-to-be-released partial patch are the stay route for Blood, and both stay and non-stay routes for Boris. We were also planning to include Peter and one more character, but one by one all but 2 of  translators went MIA. I recruited a few more translators around January and assigned all the scripts that needed to be translated for the partial patch release, but I haven’t heard back from them.

Blood (stay) 3
Boris (non-stay) 0
Boris (stay) 0
Common events 4
Unannounced Character 29
Peter (stay) 23

Anyway, I’m on summer vacation now, and though I still have stuff to do and am not 100% free, I’ll try my best to round up the MIA translators and do something about the pending scripts. Boris is pretty much ready for release, and Blood only has only 3 (but of big size) pending scripts. As for the other 2 routes, unless the missing translators have finished what I assigned them and just forgot to contact me (not very likely), almost 50 more scripts still need to be translated. Those routes will probably be included  in a second partial patch.

At this moment we’re looking for translators; editor and proofreader applications will be opened after we find more translators. Translators need good English and basic Japanese knowledge (not simply the ability to google translate, mind you). People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on tumblr, mentioning your qualifications for translating.

December update!

Merry Christmas everyone! I’m really sorry about the lack of updates the last two months. First let me share the current total status and a few preview pics~

  • Translation: 59%
  • Editing: 42%
  • Proofreading: 29%

The routes that have significant progress in terms of total content and will be included in the patch are the stay route for Blood, and both stay and non-stay routes for Boris. We were also planning to include Peter and one more character, but we will most likely release them in the second partial patch (unless we get more translators), otherwise the release will become much more delayed. The number of pending scripts for these routes are like below. Boris should be ready to go as soon as we finish the common events,  and Blood is also close to completion!

Blood (stay) 11
Boris (non-stay) 0
Boris (stay) 0
Common events 19
Unannounced Character 31
Peter (stay) 23

We were originally planning to release the first partial patch around Christmas, but considering the current status of unfinished scripts we have set our target to the upcoming valentine’s day. The number of scripts that need to be translated for a partial patch is actually not that high, but currently we have very few translators, majority of whom haven’t been very active the last couple months. I haven’t even been pushing anyone or recruiting new people, as I have been very busy myself for the last 2 months because of graduate school (finals ended just last week). I guess that everyone’s respective school/jobs have been kicking their butts too. This time of the year really is hectic =.=

The good news is that the editors and proofreaders have been working hard on the already translated scripts, and also all the system images and stuff have been edited. So there has been progress in the parts other than translation! ^o^

At this moment we’re looking for translators; editor and proofreader applications will be opened after we find more translators. In the past one specific person used to be assigned for each route, but it put too much pressure on people considering the huge amount of scripts (about 3350!), so everyone is now welcome to work on anything as long as they are qualified. For translators that means having good English and basic Japanese knowledge (not simply the ability to google translate, mind you), and editors/proofreaders only need a good grasp of English grammar and spelling. People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on tumblr, mentioning your qualifications for the position applied. Currently accepting translator applications only.

September update!

Hello everyone! Sorry about no updates in August, I recently moved to the US for my grad studies and things have been rather hectic. ;; The current total status is:

  • Translation: 55%
  • Editing: 39%
  • Proofreading: 28%

The routes that have significant progress in terms of total content and will be included in the patch are stay routes for Blood and Peter, and both stay and non-stay routes for Boris. We also plan to include one more character but no promises~ The number of pending scripts for these routes are like below.

Blood (stay) 30
Boris (non-stay) 12
Boris (stay) 2
Common events 20
Unannounced Character 31
Peter (stay) 27

Please note that the actual love events for Boris, Blood and Peter are already translated, but the above count includes the scenes that are not specifically for the route but are a part of it (like the opening and the ball scenes etc), and the routes can’t be released until these are also finished.

People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on tumblr (fanmails are encouraged since sometimes tumblr eats normal asks), mentioning your qualifications for the position applied. Currently accepting translator applications only.

Progress update and announcement of new admin!

Capture

WE STILL LIVE!!!

Hello all! This is vocaotome, new leader for the Anniversary no Kuni no Alice translation project. I’m mainly active on my tumblr blog which is pretty much a shrine to the Alice series, but I plan to keep this blog updated with monthly status reports so no worries! I also work directly for the project as the translator for Blood’s route.

Sorry about the long period of inactivity. The problem we had the last couple of years was that we didn’t have a proper way to report our progress and recruit new people despite having low manpower. The Anniversary no Kuni no Alice project started way back in 2012, but only a few remain of the people who joined initially. There used to be a thread at baka-tsuki, this wordpress blog and a forum, but ever since the previous project leader got busy with RL there hasn’t been any activity at any of these. Which means no new people could be recruited, even though the old ones left one by one.

However! We still had some people, and a good number of editors/proofreaders and 3 translators joined us after our recent recruitment post on tumblr. With our current manpower, we’re trying to release a partial patch that will contain 3 routes out of the total 10. Hopefully it will make more people take notice of the project and join us, enabling us to complete the rest of the routes. I’m thinking about making another blog on tumblr alongside this blog which in my opinion is useful for spreading news of the project. The patch link will be posted on both blogs and also on the englishotomegames blog.

At this moment we’re looking for only translators; editor and proofreader applications will be opened after we find more translators. People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on tumblr (fanmails are encouraged since sometimes tumblr eats normal asks), mentioning your qualifications for the position applied. Currently accepting translator applications only.

The current total status is:

  • Translation: 51%
  • Editing: 31%
  • Proofreading: 27%

People might be curious why only 3 routes will be included when we have finished almost half the number of scripts. That’s because not all scripts are of the same length- in some routes almost all of the translated events are super short basic events of 2-4 lines and the big events containing the actual stories are still not translated. (Also additional workload is added due to the fact that in order to play a route, the common route events also need to be translated so that people don’t encounter untranslated parts mid-route.) In truth the only routes that have significant progress in terms of total content are:

-Boris (all basic events translated, all stay route love events translated, a few non stay route love events remain)

-Peter (all basic events translated, all stay route love events translated, non stay route love events not done)

-Blood (all stay route basic events translated, all stay route love events translated except endings, non stay route not done)

In the past one specific person used to be assigned for each route, but it put too much pressure on people considering the huge amount of scripts (about 3350!), so everyone is welcome to work on anything as long as they are qualified. For translators that means having good English and basic Japanese knowledge (not simply the ability to google translate, mind you), and editors/proofreaders only need a good grasp of English grammar and spelling. People interested in helping out can either contact me on my gmail address (aurora6290@gmail.com) or on tumblr (fanmails are encouraged since sometimes tumblr eats normal asks), mentioning your qualifications for the position applied. Currently accepting translator applications only.

And that will be all. Wish us luck! (And once we release the patch definitely show your support for quinrose by purchasing either the original Japanese game for Anniversary or the English phone app, bad translations and all)

P.S. A few previews of the patch for the curious minds.
